Founded in 1970 as the North Carolina Hebrew Academy of Greensboro, B'nai Shalom Day School has grown from a small school serving grades one through four into a thriving Jewish educational community. After several name changes, the school became B'nai Shalom Day School in 1978, and has continued to expand ever since, adding a Pre-K program in 1979, a Middle School in 1992, and eventually a full preschool serving children from infancy through Pre-K. A major milestone came in 1996 with the construction of the Bernard Robinson Wing, which brought new facilities including a gym, art studio, media center, and expanded classrooms, allowing the school to grow and flourish in the decades that followed. In 1995, the first eighth grade trip to Israel took place alongside the school's inaugural graduation ceremony, traditions that are proudly carried on to this day.

At its core, B'nai Shalom has always been guided by the belief that every family who wishes to provide their children with a Jewish education should have that opportunity. Many in the community refer to the school as the "heart" of Jewish life in Greensboro, a place where Jewish values and the richness of Jewish tradition shape how students understand themselves, their relationships with others, and their responsibility to pursue a more just world.
