During Thanksgiving week of 2015, our school faced a critical safety threat. In a moment that demanded courage and action, Linda and Jerry stepped forward, providing the crucial funding to erect the fence around our campus. Their swift and generous action not only safeguarded our community but also inspired a lasting legacy: the establishment of the Shapiro Family Security Fund. In today’s world, maintaining a safe and secure environment for our children is more important than ever, and this fund ensures we have the resources to meet that need. Through this fund, Linda and Jerry have affirmed a profound truth - that no school can truly thrive unless its students and teachers feel secure.
Linda and Jerry are proud grandparents to Justin (Class of ‘23) and Riley (Class of ‘28), and their dedication to B’nai Shalom is rooted in a deep commitment to ensuring a bright and safe future for their grandchildren and all of their peers. Their generosity helps create a strong foundation for the next generation as they want every child at B’nai Shalom to grow, learn, and thrive in a safe and nurturing environment.
In their actions and personalities, Linda and Jerry embody the verse from Pirkei Avot: “Speak little, but do much; and receive every person with a pleasant countenance.” Their quiet determination, impactful deeds, and warmth toward everyone they encounter make them a shining example of this timeless wisdom.
Beyond their work with B’nai Shalom, Linda and Jerry are deeply engaged in the broader Greensboro Jewish community. They welcome new and longtime members of the community with open arms, creating a warm and inclusive atmosphere for all. Their kindness and dedication have touched countless lives, making them beloved figures not only at our school but throughout the community.
