To reach excellence, students need to be motivated. Project-based learning is a learning method highlighted in daily classroom activity at B'nai Shalom, most notably in the maker space, also known as the Fab Lab, at B’nai Shalom.

B’nai Shalom’s students undertake projects that are initiated in the maker space. The Fab Lab underwent renovations this summer to expand the space and add new tools such as a 3-D printer and laser cutter. It’s an environment designed to promote exploration, inquiry, problem-solving, purposeful play and creativity. In the Fab Lab, everyone is a learner where they can learn from their peers, teachers and the environment. Students learn that it’s OK to make mistakes, how to collaborate and get connected to the academics.

From simple machinery to complex projects, students starting at the Pre-Kindergarten level experience the maker space on a weekly basis. Children are taught how to use age appropriate tools, explore the many ways to solve a problem, and perfect their creations over time.
